WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
You will be learning Shotokan Karate, one of the oldest, most traditional and authentic styles of karate. I will be teaching you how to control your body and mind, how to concentrate, and how to protect yourself. This training is an excellent way to get the body in top shape and maintain it. In Shotokan Karate you don't just build strong martial art skills for the body; you also develop the mind through concentration and focus.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is very important! Since our classes are only held once a week it is important you don't miss a week. If you have to be absent, you may make up the class at the Family Karate Center located in St. Charles. In the case of inclement weather, students will be notified of class cancellations and when a make-up class may be held.
PROMOTIONS
Belt levels are earned after a certain skill level is reached. This may take one session or several. We have strict guidelines on rankings so when you do earn a higher belt level, you can be assured you have earned it!
BELT LEVELS
The ASKA belt levels consist of White (Beginner), Yellow, Orange, Blue and Green (Intermediate), Brown and Black (Advanced)
We have a junior ranking system for children 16 and under. This system gives children the extra time they may need to master their techniques for each new belt.
RANK EXAMINATIONS
Rank exams are held at the end of each session. Not all students will automatically quality to test. Your instructor will advise you on whether you are ready to test. The examination is conducted by Randall G. Hassell, Chief Instructor of the ASKA. There is a fee for testing. The dates and cost of examinations will be given at the end of the session. After the first examination you will become a member of the American Shotokan Karate Alliance.
